Robert Barra
Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer
Robert Barra is a Co-Founder and Co-CEO of CryptoMetrics. A gifted and visionary entrepreneur, Mr. Barra has a 20-year track record of financing, managing and operating companies in healthcare, technology and energy-related industries. Since co-founding the company in 2000 he has helped to oversee its rapid expansion from a provider of fingerprint recognition software to a full-service biometric security company by acquiring BioDentity Systems Corporation, an Ottawa, Canada-based, developer of face recognition technologies.
Prior to co-founding CryptoMetrics, Mr. Barra served as a member of the Board of Directors of Globaltex Industries, a publicly traded coal and gold mining company located in British Columbia, Canada, where he developed financial and business plans and led capital formation efforts. He was also President of A.L.M. Associates Corporation, a Delaware-based coal-leasing company for which he completed a successful merger leading to publicly traded status.
Michael A. Vitale
Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer
Michael A. Vitale is a Co-Founder and Co-CEO of CryptoMetrics. For over 26 years he has successfully served in executive sales, marketing and operational roles at several companies in the environmental and energy-related industries. Since co-founding the company in 2000, he has helped to oversee its rapid expansion from a provider of fingerprint recognition software to a full-service biometric security company by acquiring BioDentity Systems Corporation, an Ottawa, Canada-based, developer of facial recognition technologies.
Mr. Vitale currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Environmental Recovery and Consolidation Services (ERCS), a North Reading, MA-based, leader in the collection, preparation, and pre-sorting of post-consumer materials. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), an industry and government group focused on developing carpet reclamation and recycling methods. Collectively, CARE is accountable for keeping millions of pounds of carpeting out of landfills across North America.
Before co-founding CryptoMetrics, Mr. Vitale was CEO of Environmental Recovery and Consolidation Services (ERCS). His responsibilities included overseeing the networking division of contracts, internal controls and company protocol for implementation of sustainable architectural provisions.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Vitale served for 10 years as the Chief Operating Officer for Tower Recycling, a company contracted by Honeywell International, Armstrong Industries and Collins & Aikman Flooring to manage many of their recycling needs. His duties included focusing on the development and implementation of sales leases, marketing networking, and record systems for tracking customer bases, surveys and routing systems.
Dario Berini
Chief Operating Officer
Dario Berini is the Chief Operating Officer of CryptoMetrics. He is focused on developing new operating strategies to support the company's steady business growth while managing the day-to-day activities of the corporation, including leading in the design, operations and improvement of CryptoMetrics solutions and product offerings.
Mr. Berini has more then 20 years of experience within the biometric market. His experience includes managing, developing and delivering standalone products through complex, distributed, real-time biometric systems. Mr. Berini has worked within customer industries that include energy, telecommunications, high technology, Federal and International Government, defense, finance, and healthcare.
Mr. Berini's biometric portfolio of professional experience includes working with diverse organizations, including:
- Two of the largest commercial healthcare biometric systems in the United States that are world renowned and part of the top 100 healthcare institutions in North America
- United States - Automated Fingerprint Imaging System (AFIS) - Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- United States, Commonwealth of Connecticut - Biometric Welfare Systems
- United States, State of New Jersey - Biometric Welfare Systems
- New York State - Biometric Welfare Systems
- Haiti Biometric Tax Identification System
Prior to joining CryptoMetrics, Mr. Berini held various Management positions with Unisys Corporation, a global technology system integrator. In addition, he has also held Senior Management position with various startup companies within security software and systems markets. His experience within the security domain spans logical and physical access, biometrics, encryption, single sign-on, desktop control, and credentialing. Mr. Berini has extensive in-depth knowledge, experience and successes in management and direction of diverse teams to deliver real-time systems, distributed systems, complex hardware and imbedded systems.
Joel F. Shaw
Chief Strategy Officer
Joel Shaw, is the Chief Strategy Officer of CryptoMetrics. An internationally acclaimed expert in the field of machine-readable travel documents and border management systems, Mr. Shaw has spent more than 18 years conceiving, designing and developing border clearance, airport security and document-reading systems. Mr. Shaw is a co-author of a patent dealing with securing of travel documents.
Before the acquisition by CryptoMetrics, Mr. Shaw was the founder and driving force behind BioDentity where he played a leading role in formulating the international standards behind machine-readable travel document systems.
Previous to founding BioDentity, Mr. Shaw served as Executive Vice President of AIT where he conceived the Passport Reader product and the optical character recognition logic behind it. At AIT he led the business identification, product development, launch and initial market delivery aspects of the business.
Mr. Shaw is a highly sought-after advisor to border control and travel document issuing authorities in North America and throughout the world. He has worked closely with the Canadian Passport Office, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Mr. Shaw is also the Chairman of the International Standards Organization (ISO) Working Group for the development of standards for machine-readable documents and serves as ISO’s official liaison with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
