CryptoMetrics, Inc. Named Exclusive Provider of Facial Recognition Technology for the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Tuckahoe, NY, September 9, 2008 CryptoMetrics, Inc., a leading global provider of biometric enabled critical infrastructure and key asset protection systems, announced that they have entered into a twenty-five year exclusive partnership with the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and BioDentity Systems L.L.C., to develop and deploy state-of-the-art face recognition-based systems for enhancing the security of the UAE and countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The systems to be developed and deployed use industry leading facial recognition technology created by CryptoMetrics to confirm a person’s true identity as well as proactively identify persons who pose a threat to the State.
The long term partnership, between CryptoMetrics and the UAE’s Ministry of Interior, follows CryptoMetrics’ recently announced contract to deploy facial recognition technology at all ports of entry to the UAE. Robert Barra, Co-founder and CEO of CryptoMetrics, stated, “This announcement demonstrates the confidence that the government of the UAE has in our technology and the government’s long term commitment to the safety and security of their citizens and of visitors to the UAE. CryptoMetrics is honored to be an integral part of this commitment and we look forward to working with the Ministry of Interior to deploy new and innovative solutions that will enhance security.”
Mr. Barra also expressed his appreciation for this honor to General Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. At the July 14th launch, His Highness affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, would spare no effort to enable the authorities to play an active role in maintaining the country’s security. His Highness also praised the efforts of law and order authorities in the UAE, led by Lt-Gen. H.H. Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minster, to prevent crime and to employ the latest technology and best capabilities.
Major Fawaz Badran al Qaraeen from the Ministry of Interior stated that "CryptoMetrics is a pioneer in developing face recognition-based identification technology and systems, especially enabling technology required to make face recognition software work in real world settings. They won convincingly in competitive trials conducted by the Ministry of Interior to confirm the most advanced supplier of face recognition technology.”
Major Qaraeen praised Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Minister of Interior, for deciding to make an investment in CryptoMetrics, stating that "His Highness diligently seeks innovative and effective technologies to maintain and solidify the United Arab Emirates borders, providing greater security and harmony for the benefit of all people".
The Ministry of Interior and CryptoMetrics launched the initial technology deployment of their partnership at the Abu Dhabi Airport on July 14 where they unveiled the world’s first known installation of a nation-wide proactive wanted person detection system based on facial recognition. The system will be used to automatically detect persons attempting to enter the UAE at an airport who should be denied entry or detained.
